Prepare yourselves, folks. This is not a well-thought-out blog entry, it is stream of consciousness as I am so fucking angry at what is going on right now. That’s why you haven’t seen much from us at “Eww Politics,” the world is on fire and it’s hard to want to jump back into the fray when we’re all just trying to survive. But here goes…
The President of the United States has been infected with Covid-19. I don’t write this to contend this as fact. There’s no conspiracy theory from this writer. Sure, it’s a convenient way for him to potentially avoid another debate where he looked like an utter fool, it’s also a great opportunity for him to fake his own death to avoid all those back taxes, but those are just stories that are more interesting than the ugly truth. That truth is he got exactly what he deserved.
Now, some will try to point out the hypocrisy of saying he deserved Covid. Sure, point it out. Let me pretend like I give a shit about any Trump supporter trying to expect sympathy for a man who has shown none. Let me play the tiniest of violins as a show of empathy for someone who shared conspiracy theories that the virus was a hoax, who said the “warm weather would kill it,” who made fun of Joe Biden for wearing a mask and social distancing. It is not hypocritical to hold someone accountable for their words and actions. This man deserves to be put through the ringer for his words, his abhorrent behavior and absolutely cruel policies and laws. But above else? He needs to be taken to task for the awful precedent he is setting.
Trump has been vocal about his belief that the virus was “no worse than the flu,” but as the revelations of Bob Woodward’s recording have shown, that was a lie. He knew in February that the virus was deadly and did nothing to prevent its spread through our country until it was too late. And when he finally did do something, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t a strong enough stance, ironic for a man who claims to be tough. All the guidelines, all the measures, none of them were strict enough to stop this disease from spreading. He was more worried about the economy as hundreds, sometimes thousands died daily from this virus. He still held rallies against the advice of health officials, he didn’t enforce distancing or masks at any of his rallies and as a direct result, people like Herman Cain died of Covid-19. Hundreds more got sick because of his wanton ignorance. But all of that, while horrible, tactless, and absolutely irresponsible, is still not the worst part.
In the coming days, our President is going to recover from “the China Virus” as he continues to call it, ignoring pleas to change his verbiage from that racist moniker. He will recover. He will get right back to his ugly tweets, filled with lies, irresponsible advice, misdirection and slander. He will be back on the stage for another debate to interrupt, scream, insult and irritate the nation. Do you know why, though? Because he was given oxygen by White House medical officials days before his positive test was announced. He was flown via helicopter to a private wing of a hospital that had access to every experimental treatment at the ready. He was able to send out video propaganda (that was obviously doctored) to keep the public “aware” of his condition. It all turned out to be a show, like his entire presidency, but through all of this his privilege has shown through. Did any of the 210,000 dead Americans get this kind of treatment? Did Herman Cain even get this? You’d think his Godfather Pizza money would’ve gotten him some good treatment (estimated at the time of his death at nearly $7 million). No, because he’s the most powerful man in the United States, he got special treatment, wasn’t taken to a hospital that is overtaxed with cases, he wasn’t turned away because he couldn’t afford treatment, he literally flew to an Army hospital and got experimental treatments that will end up falling back on the American taxpayer.
This is the most egregious of his transgressions, the utter hypocrisy of his actions. As he lay in a hospital bed in Walter Reed, this asshole has his lawyers fighting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. He literally wants to get rid of health insurance for a large portion of Americans. He has no plan to replace the ACA, even though he has lied for the last 3+ years and told us “it’s two weeks away,” there is still no replacement plan. His money and power are why he will survive this as other Americans die because they don’t have those privileges. He claims to care about us, yet this is how he shows it? He deserves “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” but those who lost their jobs because of this pandemic and subsequently lost their healthcare, they do not? That is the example he is showing us right now. So, pardon me if I’m not “praying for the health of our President” as I’m sure he’s tweeting more conspiracy theories to incense his fan base and is planning another rally for when he’s out of the hospital so he can infect more people. His policies were dangerous as was his lack of experience and vile rhetoric, but now he is actually physically dangerous too as he is a disease-spreading psychopath. He literally left the hospital against doctor’s orders to drive by and wave to the Proud Boys and other nut jobs who had been camping out in the area surrounding Walter Reed. Fuck him and fuck anyone who still supports him. He doesn’t care about this country, only his own ego. That’s why he had to go wave to the Proud Boys and other racists in assembly. He couldn’t resist, and now more Secret Service members have to be quarantined because of his irresponsibility. I hope this nightmare is over November 3rd.
