In what has become a tired statement, one of anger, distain, frustration and now just exhaustion: we warned you. Every person with common sense, every person who knew Donald Trump’s history as a business man, a real estate investor, a carefully crafted celebrity knew that he was going to be trouble in the political world. All of his endeavors had a common thread: they were all about the illusion of class, of power, of elegance and wealth. But underneath that fool’s gold veneer was corruption, racist business practices, screwing contractors out of money, sexual assault cases, extra-marital affairs, and frivolous law suits to crush competitors or bury those he wronged.
Those who had seen the Trump song and dance in New York, New Jersey and Florida knew what was coming when he started running for office. Those who were media literate warned those who only saw him as that symbol of wealth based on his TV appearances, that he was a predator. And how did he come into power? How did he trick an entire American political party into believing he was the right person to hook their wagon to? He used that persona of “successful business man,” that symbol of wealth and power to legitimize his aspirations. And then all those ugly racist thoughts and actions we saw during his rise to power become a part of his campaign (like refusing to rent his properties to black people). He called Mexican immigrants “rapists, drug dealers, thugs…some of them I assume are good people…”. And before I continue, let’s analyze that sentence because his supporters will try and defend that statement as “he’s just telling it like it is.” To take an entire country and say that their residents are rapists, drug dealers and thugs and then toss in at the end “some of them I assume are good people” is simply covering his ass. that “some of them I assume…” is not even a positive thing because it implies that he’s never seen the good, he has to assume there are some good ones.
His whole presidential run is littered with comments like these. He bragged about sexually assaulting a woman, he bragged that he could get away with murder. And why could be boast about these awful acts? Because he knew that by appealing to racism, appealing to hate, to divisiveness but also lying about typical Conservative staples such as “balancing the budget, getting rid of the deficit, and getting rid of waste in government” that he could gain their support. He won over the more aggressive “Conservatives” who were against immigration by promising a huge border wall on the American/Mexican border (which was foolish as that’s not even how most of the illegal immigration occurs in the United States, it’s from the overstay of visas), he won over disenfranchised voters who “hated politicians” by promising to “Drain the swamp” that is Washington, D.C. The irony of a corrupt businessman with a rap sheet 10 miles long of fucking over business partners, workers, and investors saying he’s going to end corruption to win over voters is still not lost on me…but they didn’t know Donald Trump. He was the Apprentice guy from TV! “It’s not personal, it’s just business” was his tag line! He would bring that same mindset to running the country! He wouldn’t be concerned about being politically correct because he was going to rid the country of every scapegoat, of every “bad hombre.”
I want to be clear, I’m not making fun of those who voted for him the first time because they didn’t know the man they were voting for. You fell for it. You were conned like countless contractors, investors, business associates, tenants and the like. He also made sure that all of his followers only believed him, as he did everything he could to convince them that the media was biased. He coined the term “fake news” to undermine any statements that were critical of him or his decisions. He had his press secretary come up with the term “alternative facts” as if lies and deceit were just as important as the actual truth. He defended white supremacists instead of unequivocally coming out against them. His “fine people on both sides” quote was later amended as he did, in fact, condemn white supremacy, but it was too late. He already put blame on those who were protesting Nazis chanting “Jews will not replace us” as they marched through Charlottesville with torches in hand. There’s a laundry list of things we saw him do, both domestically and internationally that were an embarrassment to the country and the office of the presidency in his four years in office.
But the worst? Donald Trump loves attention. He loves being a focal point of discussion. But more than attention: he loves power. Whether he himself is an anti-semite, a racist, a white supremacist, or a Nazi sympathizer is not important. What is important is that he says everything that people who ARE those things want to hear. He eggs them on. The violent, racist, militant fringe groups who are looking to “take back their country” love him because he loves them. It’s a toxic relationship of the worst kind. During a debate with President-elect Joe Biden, he was asked to tell white supremacists to stand down, to stop their attacks on Black Lives Matter protesters. His response?
“Stand back and stand by.”
That’s not condemning. That’s not calling for peace, that’s telling them all to…wait for further instructions. And that is exactly what happened. When he lost the election HANDILY, by more than 7 million votes, he claimed fraud. He claimed that he won by a landslide. Mind you, this is after he crippled the postal service and did everything he could to ensure another 4 years of his presidency, he STILL lost by more than 7 million votes. If things were actually done fairly as far as voting goes, it could have been an ever worse loss for him. But he continued to claim voter fraud when he had no proof. He filed countless lawsuits to challenge the results that were all laughed out of court. Then he planned rallies. “They stole this election from us!” He crowed.
Then yesterday happened.

And why did Trump supporters siege the Capitol building? To “stop the steal.” This was their election. Trump won, he said so after all! You can’t believe the media! They’re all lying! They’re biased! But before “the siege,” before thousands of angry, entitled freaks stormed the US Capitol building to stop the Electoral College confirming Joe Biden as our next president, the current president was inciting a riot in front of the White House

WE. WARNED. YOU. We fucking warned you this shit would happen. We fucking warned you that this man was a goddamn psychopath. That he was corrupt scum. That he was the worst kind of human being. AND YOU LAPPED IT UP! There’s no excuse to have ever supported him! We fucking warned you this shit was going to happen and what did you do, Trump supporters? “Oh, he’s not a fascist. That’s hyperbole!” REALLY? He told people to “stop the steal,” organized a rally to further instigate them into action and attempted to overthrow a democratic election. There is no tax reform stance, no economic plan, defense budget, immigration stance that is worth all of this! OH, and all of those things he promised on the campaign trail? “I’ll balance the deficit in 8 years…” that was bullshit, too as it’s grown more in his 4 years in office than any other presidency! His tax plan? It gave billionaires countless breaks but the regular Joes of this country will see their taxes increase every year for nearly a decade. There is no longer a defense of voting for him, much less supporting him.
“He’s our president and we have to respect him,” they’ll say. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND? He incited an attempted coup yesterday. You don’t support that. EVER.
“He’s done a lot of good things for the economy,” yeah…sure has. Like letting a dangerous virus run rough-shot over our country because he disbanded the pandemic response team and refused to fully shut down the country, often making fun of wearing masks and socially distancing. That’s made our economy BOOM.
There are no more excuses. Period. We warned you, and you laughed it off. “Give him a chance,” was said over and over and over again. If you voted for him, you were wrong. Admit it, accept that no one is perfect but for fuck’s sake don’t expect people who warned you repeatedly about this con man to pat you on the back and feel sorry for your mistake that you refused to admit for the past 4 years.
“We need to reach across the aisle.”
Not me. Abandon this bullshit stance of defending him, defending your decisions and more so, those Republican politicians who protected him, kissed his ass, and enabled him and his psychopathic fan base to do what they did yesterday. I said before I’m not making fun of you for your vote of Donald Trump, but you are to be held accountable for putting a dangerous fascist in power and looking the other way when presented with racism, divisivism, and his appealing to the worst in humanity. You chose to look the other way. You chose division, you chose racist rhetoric. And even if your reasoning for voting for him with economic justifications, or religious reasons (which, is completely laughable for various reasons) or some other non-sense, all of that other stuff he did? You voted for that, too. And now, if you continue to support him, you are supporting an on-their-way-out president who tried to overthrow our government. You supported dangerous conspiracy-theorists who are now in office and helped Trump egg this abhorrent act on yesterday. That is unforgivable. The line is drawn: condemn them, leave this shit and admit that you were wrong to support it. What side will you be on?
*Edit* 1/8
I want to address the second type of person who voted for Donald Trump that I failed to mention before. As mentioned above, there were those who were duped into thinking he was a successful businessman, a brilliant negotiator, and a wise mogul while ignoring the fascist undertones, the racist past, the inability to take a moral stand. That second voter? They knew what he would install. They knew what kind of hate he would spread, what kind of divisiveness would come from his administration, what sort of horrific policies would be created and they welcomed it. They knew he would keep rich, white folk in power, that they would never be held accountable for their actions and would be a crack-back to those “awful Obama years.” So, it boiled down to two types of voters who elected this sack of shit: the duped and the tactlessly cruel. The duped turned into the cruel when they saw what was happening and thought “well…things are the same or better for me right now so I’m pretty happy! My taxes were lower!” It didn’t take long for them to become the tactlessly cruel. And quite frankly, they’re all in the same boat now. Doesn’t matter why you voted for him back then, you did this…and we fucking warned you TWICE.
